The Year 2 Giraffe Class Spring Term 2018
Literacy – This term we will be looking at different versions of Traditional stories such as The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood. We will be taking part in role play and writing our own stories. Also we will be learning how to write recounts and reports based on our topic of Cracking Ideas.
Maths – We have a daily maths lesson which involves starting with our CLIC (Counting, Learn it’s, It’s nothing new and Calculations) and then working on different maths topics. This term we are learning about different measures, positional language, multiplication, addition of 3 digit numbers and becoming confident with numbers beyond 100.
Please don’t forget that the children can access Mathletics at home.
Topic – Our topic this term is Cracking Ideas. In this topic we will be learning about different inventors. We will talk about how these inventions changed how people live. In particular we will be learning all about George Stevenson and the railways.
Design and technology – This term we will be designing and making a moving vehicle.
Science – In the spring term the children will be asked to investigate and think about the use of different materials. We will be thinking about why different particular materials are used for making different objects and investigating how materials can be changed.
Computing – This term Year 2 will continue to talk about e-safety and also learning how to save and retrieve work independently. They will also use Purple Mash to improve their keyboard skills. The children will be given opportunities to work together to create pictures and information about their topic work.
PE - PE this term will be swimming on Tuesday mornings and cricket on Friday mornings.
Please remember that no jewellery can be worn so earrings will need to be taken out at home on those days.
Please can I remind you that the children always have spellings given out on Monday to be learnt for a test on Friday. Please could you help the children to look at their spellings and encourage them to write them out on the sheet each night.
Also we try to encourage the children to read most nights and for someone at home to sign their reading diaries. The children are awarded 3 points on the class chart every time they read at home. Extra reading is always beneficial for the children and it will really help their progress.
Thank you for supporting the children with their homework.
If you have any questions about your child please come in and ask at home time.
