Cambridge Primary School

A school. A community. A family.

The Parrot class is a Year 1 class and there are 28 children altogether. Our teacher is Mrs Hughes and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Humphries and Miss Grainger.

Each morning we have Phonics, English and Maths lessons, and we often work in small groups. During the afternoon we take part in topic activities.

What we will be learning during the Spring term 2017

Literacy - This term we will be writing letters, using a dictionary and learning about stories from other cultures. Every other Friday afternoon we also visit the library to look at the books and read stories together.

Maths - At the start of every Maths lesson we have CLIC (Counting, Learn Its, Its Nothing New and Calculation) then at the end of the week we look forward to our CLIC and Learn Its tests where we try to beat our scores. This term we will also be learning about position, fractions and problem solving. Children also have a login for which we use regularly but they may also use at home.

Science - Throughout the year we learn about seasonal changes and this term we are also learning about materials and their properties.

Topic - Our topic this term is Great and Ghastly Events. We started the term learning about the Titanic which we have found fascinating, and we will continue learning about great events that have happened in Barrow.

PE - This term we have PE on a Monday and Wednesday morning. On a Monday we are learning a dance for the U-Dance festival which takes place at the Forum on March 28th. On Wednesday we have PE with Brad from Barrow Sports Council where we are learning a variety of ball skills.

Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school on these days and that any earrings or jewellery are removed.
